And the deuil that deceiued them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night, for euer and euer. Revelation 20:10 (KJV)

The book of Revelation is a highly symbolic and apocalyptic book written by the apostle John. It contains visions and prophecies about the end times and the ultimate victory of God over evil. Revelation 20 is commonly referred to as the chapter that describes the thousand‑year reign of Christ, known as the millennial reign.

In Revelation 20:10 we see the ultimate destiny of the devil, who is Satan, the adversary of God and humanity. The verse states that the devil is cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, which signifies eternal punishment and separation from God’s presence. This judgment comes after the millennial reign of Christ.

The verse also mentions that the devil deceived people. Throughout the Bible, Satan is portrayed as a deceiver and tempter, leading people away from God’s truth and into sin. The consequences of this deception are severe, as Satan’s destiny is an everlasting torment in the lake of fire.

The beast and the false prophet are already in the lake of fire and brimstone. In Revelation, the beast represents a powerful and oppressive political system or empire that opposes God and persecutes His people. The false prophet represents a religious figure who promotes and supports the beast’s authority. Both have already been judged and are now joined by the devil in eternal punishment.

The phrase “day and night forever and ever” emphasizes the everlasting nature of the punishment. It signifies that there will be no relief or escape from the torment for the devil, the beast, and the false prophet. This eternal punishment serves as a sobering reminder of God’s justice and the seriousness of sin.

Revelation 20:10 highlights the certainty of God’s judgment upon evil and the assurance that the devil, the embodiment of evil, will face eternal punishment. As believers, we are called to resist the devil, stand firm in our faith, and live in obedience to God’s Word. It reminds us that our choices have consequences, and we must remain vigilant against the deceptions of the enemy.
