Revelation 22:11

Listen to this article

“He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.”

This verse is found at the conclusion of the book of Revelation, which is the last book of the Bible. It presents a glimpse into the future and describes the final state of humanity and the earth. Revelation 22:11 specifically focuses on the idea of finality and emphasises the permanence of people’s chosen paths.

Here are a few key points to consider when studying this verse:

  • Choices and Consequences:The verse suggests that individuals will continue in the state they have chosen. Those who are unjust or unrighteous will persist in their injustice and unrighteousness, while those who are righteous and holy will remain so. This highlights the principle of reaping what one sows and the eternal consequences of our choices.
  • The Finality of Decision:The verse portrays a sense of finality, indicating that at some point, people’s characters and actions will become fixed. It signifies a time when there will no longer be an opportunity for repentance or change. It emphasises the importance of making the right choices in this present life, as the future holds eternal consequences.
  • The Separation of the Righteous and Unrighteous:This verse also underscores the separation of the righteous and unrighteous. As each individual’s character becomes fixed, there will be a clear division between those who are righteous and those who are unrighteous. It speaks to the ultimate justice and judgment of God.
  • Encouragement and Warning:While the verse presents a sobering reality, it can also serve as both an encouragement and a warning. For those who are righteous and holy, it can provide assurance that their faithfulness will be acknowledged and rewarded by God. For those who are unjust or unrighteous, it serves as a warning to reconsider their ways and turn to God while there is still an opportunity for repentance.

It’s important to note that Revelation is a highly symbolic and apocalyptic book, and interpreting its imagery and messages can be complex. Studying this verse in the context of the entire book and considering the broader biblical teachings on judgment, salvation, and God’s character can provide a more comprehensive understanding.

Remember, when engaging in Bible study, it is beneficial to consult commentaries, study guides, and seek guidance from trusted spiritual leaders to gain further insights and interpretations that align with the broader teachings of Scripture.
