Revelation 3:21
“To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.”
Context:Revelation 3:21 is part of the message to the church in Laodicea, which is the last of the seven churches addressed in the book of Revelation. Jesus is speaking to the believers in Laodicea and offers a promise to those who overcome.
Overcoming:The phrase “to him that overcometh” refers to those who persevere in their faith and remain faithful to Christ amidst challenges and temptations. It emphasises the importance of endurance and steadfastness in the Christian life. Throughout the book of Revelation, there are repeated exhortations for believers to overcome (Revelation 2:7, 2:11, 2:17, etc.).

Jesus promises that those who overcome will be granted the privilege of sitting with Him on His throne, just as He also overcame and is seated with His Father on His throne. As Jesus conquered sin and death through His sacrificial death and resurrection, believers are encouraged to overcome the challenges of this world through their faith in Him. By sharing in Christ’s victory, believers are assured of sharing in His glory and authority.
Intimacy with God:The mention of Jesus being seated with His Father on His throne indicates an intimate relationship and shared authority between the Father and the Son. Similarly, believers who overcome will enjoy a close fellowship with Jesus and will have a place of honour and authority in His kingdom.
Application:Revelation 3:21 serves as an encouragement for believers to persevere in their faith, even in the face of difficulties and trials. It reminds us that our present struggles and challenges are temporary, and if we remain faithful, we will be rewarded with an eternal and glorious future in the presence of Christ.
