Revelation 3:5

Listen to this article

“He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.”

Context:The book of Revelation is the last book in the New Testament and contains a series of visions and messages from Jesus Christ to the seven churches in Asia Minor. This verse is part of the message to the church in Sardis.

Overcomers:The verse begins by referring to those who “overcome.” Throughout the book of Revelation, the term “overcomer” is used to describe believers who remain faithful to Jesus Christ despite various trials, temptations, and persecution. It emphasizes the importance of enduring faith and perseverance in the Christian journey.

White Raiment:The promise to the overcomers in Sardis is that they will be clothed in white raiment. In the Bible, white garments are often associated with purity, righteousness, and holiness. This imagery suggests that those who remain faithful to Christ will be purified and made righteous through His saving grace.

The Book of Life:The verse mentions that the names of the overcomers will not be blotted out of the book of life. The book of life is a symbolic record in which God keeps the names of those who belong to Him and have eternal life. By assuring that their names will not be blotted out, Jesus is emphasizing the security of salvation for those who overcome.

Confession before the Father and His Angels:Jesus further promises that He will confess the names of the overcomers before His Father and the angels. This statement highlights the intimate relationship between Jesus and His followers. It signifies that the overcomers will receive recognition and acknowledgment from Jesus Himself in the presence of God and the heavenly host.
