Romans 1:10

Posted on 18 May at 14:32

“Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.”

Certainly! Here is a Bible study on Romans 1:10 (KJV) says, “Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.”

Background:The book of Romans was written by the apostle Paul to the Christians in Rome. In this particular verse, Paul expresses his desire to visit the Roman believers, and he mentions his prayer for a prosperous journey.

Prayerful Request:Paul begins the verse by mentioning his request. He desired to visit the believers in Rome and share in their faith. Paul’s desire to visit them demonstrates his deep love and concern for the early Christian community.

Prosperous Journey:Paul then prays for a prosperous journey. This indicates that he not only sought to reach his destination safely but also desired that his journey would be smooth and without hindrances. He recognised that a successful journey was ultimately in the hands of God and subject to His will.

By the Will of God:Paul acknowledges that the fulfilment of his desire for a prosperous journey depended on the will of God. This statement reflects his submission to God’s sovereignty and his understanding that God is the one who orders and directs our paths. Paul’s prayer aligns with Jesus’ teaching in the Lord’s Prayer, where He taught His disciples to pray, “Your will be done” (Matthew 6:10).

Application:Paul’s prayer in this verse provides us with some valuable lessons. First, it highlights the importance of intercessory prayer. Paul was not only concerned about his own needs but also sought the well-being of others. We should similarly remember to lift up our brothers and sisters in Christ in prayer.

  • Second, Paul’s reliance on God’s will reminds us of the need to trust in God’s sovereignty in our lives. We can make plans and desires, but ultimately, we must submit them to God and trust that His will is perfect and good.

Finally, Paul’s desire to have a prosperous journey also serves as a reminder that our physical journeys are often intertwined with our spiritual journeys. As we navigate through life, we should seek God’s guidance and favour, knowing that He can make our paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).
