Romans 15:20

Posted on 18 May at 14:31

“Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man’s foundation.”

Romans 15:20 (KJV) says: “Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man’s foundation.”

This verse is part of the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans, where he discusses the mission and work he had undertaken in spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. Let’s explore the key themes and insights from this verse:

The Apostle Paul’s Passion:Paul expresses his deep passion for preaching the gospel. The word “strived” in this verse signifies his zealous commitment and effort to proclaim the good news of Christ. Paul was dedicated to fulfilling his God-given mission and spreading the message of salvation.

Reaching the Unreached:Paul emphasizes that he aimed to preach the gospel in places where Christ was not yet known or where the name of Christ had not been proclaimed. His focus was on areas where the foundation of faith in Jesus had not been laid. This reveals Paul’s desire to take the message to new frontiers, expanding the reach of the gospel to those who had not heard it before.

Building on a Solid Foundation:Paul states his intention not to build upon another man’s foundation. This signifies his respect for the work of other ministers of the gospel and their established congregations. Paul wanted to avoid duplicating efforts or causing unnecessary divisions. Instead, he desired to bring the gospel to those who had not yet received it, ensuring a firm foundation for their faith in Christ.

The Importance of Pioneering:Paul’s approach highlights the significance of pioneering work in spreading the gospel. By venturing into new territories and sharing the message of salvation, he aimed to establish a strong foundation for future believers. This passage encourages believers to consider taking the gospel to places where it has not yet reached, reaching out to those who have not had the opportunity to hear about Jesus.

Application:

  • This verse encourages Christians to have a passion for sharing the gospel and reaching the unreached. It prompts believers to consider areas where the message of Christ is not widely known and to contribute to establishing a solid foundation of faith in those places. It reminds us to appreciate the work of others while also actively engaging in pioneering efforts to spread the good news of salvation.

Overall, Romans 15:20 teaches us about the importance of sharing the gospel zealously and strategically, focusing on areas where Christ is not yet known. It urges us to build on a solid foundation while pioneering new territories for the expansion of God’s kingdom.
