Zechariah 6:14

Posted on 18 May at 11:25

And the crownes shall bee to Helem, and to Tobijah, and to Iedaiah, and to Hen the sonne of Zephaniah for a memoriall, in the Temple of the Lord. Zechariah 6:14 (KJV)

Historical Context: Zechariah was a prophet who lived during the post-exilic period when the Israelites had returned from Babylonian captivity and were rebuilding Jerusalem and the temple. The book of Zechariah contains a series of visions and messages from God to encourage and instruct the people.

Symbolism of Crowns: In this verse, the crowns are symbolic of honour, authority, and the kingly office. The crowns were to be given as a memorial in the temple of the LORD, signifying their significance and value in the sight of God.

Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Hen: These four individuals are mentioned in the verse as the recipients of the crowns. While not much is known about these specific individuals, their names hold symbolic meanings. Helem means “dream,” reflecting the prophetic nature of God’s messages. Tobijah means “the goodness of the LORD” or “God is good,” highlighting God’s benevolence. Jedaiah means “the LORD knows” or “the LORD has known,” emphasizing God’s knowledge and awareness. Hen means “grace” or “favour,” underscoring God’s favour and grace towards His people.

The Significance of the Crowns: The crowns bestowed on these individuals symbolise the restoration of honour, authority, and divine favour to the people of Israel. After years of exile and hardship, God promised to bless and honour His people once again. These crowns represent the restoration of their dignity and the reestablishment of their role as God’s chosen people.
