These

things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among the three mighties. 1 Chronicles 11:24 (KJV)

The passage under consideration includes a list of individuals: Zadok, the son of Ahitub; Abiathar, the son of Ahimelech; the Levites; Uriel; Asaiah; Joel; Shemaiah; Eliel; and Amminadab. This enumeration is presented in some traditional renderings of the text. However, it is important to note that there is no biblical verse that contains the exact phrase “These things did Zadok, the son of Ahitub, and Abiathar, the son of Ahimelech, and the Levites, and Uriel, and Asaiah, and Joel, and Shemaiah, and Eliel, and Amminadab.” The closest related verse cited in scholarly references is 2 Samuel 8:17, which reads: “And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathor, were priests.” This verse confirms the presence of Zadok son of Ahitub and Ahimelech son of Abiathor in the biblical record, but it does not include the extended list of names found in the traditional rendering. Consequently, while the names Zadok and Ahimelech appear in Scripture, the broader compilation of individuals does not have a direct biblical source. Readers are therefore encouraged to distinguish between the canonical text of 1 Chronicles 11:24 as it appears in the King James Version and later expansions or interpretive traditions that add further names. Recognizing this distinction helps maintain fidelity to the original biblical wording while also acknowledging the existence of supplementary material that some readers may encounter in commentaries or devotional literature.
