And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with the staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of the Lord.

In this verse, the Levites carry the Ark on their shoulders with the staves, or poles, exactly as Moses had commanded. The law specified that the Ark should be carried this way, with poles inserted through rings on its sides (Exodus 25:14; Numbers 7:9). The Levites did not invent their own method. They followed the precise command given through Moses, which came from the Lord Himself.
