are in all the earth. 1 Chronicles 16:14 (KJV)
The book of 1 Chronicles records Israel’s history from Adam to the reign of King David. Chapter 16 centers on the placement of the Ark of the Covenant in Jerusalem and the ensuing celebration and worship that followed.
The verse opens with an urgent invitation: “Sing unto the LORD, all the earth.” Singing is presented as a vital element of biblical worship, a means of expressing praise, thanksgiving, and adoration. The call is universal, extending beyond Israel to every nation, underscoring that worship belongs to all peoples.
It then commands the people to “show forth from day to day his salvation” (or “proclaim his salvation day by day”). This links worship with proclamation, indicating that singing should continually declare God’s saving work. In the Old Testament context the salvation refers to historic deliverances such as the Exodus; the New Testament understanding sees its fulfillment in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.
The phrase “from day to day” (or “day by day”) stresses regularity. Believers are urged to make the declaration of God’s salvation a consistent part of their lives, intentionally offering gratitude for His continual deliverance and sharing that message with others.
Application
- Worship and Singing – Believers are encouraged to engage in heartfelt worship and singing, allowing deep connection with God and participation in the corporate worship of the Church.
- Proclaim God’s Salvation – The call to proclaim God’s salvation includes sharing the good news of Jesus Christ and His redemptive work on the cross, seizing opportunities to testify to God’s transforming power.
- Daily Practice – Worship and the declaration of salvation should become a daily habit, not limited to special occasions. By cultivating regular worship and thanksgiving, believers acknowledge God’s constant presence and remember His faithfulness each day.
