1 Chronicles 2:45

Posted on 18 May at 11:31

“And the son of Shammai was Maon: and Maon was the father of Bethzur.”

Context:The Book of Chronicles is a historical record that traces the genealogy and history of the Israelite people. The passage in question comes from a section that lists the descendants of Judah, the son of Jacob. It provides an account of the lineage and descendants of the tribe of Judah.

Shammai:Shammai is mentioned as the father of Maon in this verse. Shammai is not mentioned extensively elsewhere in the Bible, and not much is known about him beyond this genealogical record.

Maon:Maon is the son of Shammai. The name “Maon” means “habitation” or “dwelling.” There are different individuals in the Bible who bear the name Maon, but the context here suggests that this particular Maon is a descendant of Judah and part of the lineage being traced.

Bethzur:Maon is identified as the father of Bethzur. Bethzur means “house of rock” or “place of flint.” Bethzur is also mentioned in other parts of the Bible as a town or a city located in the territory of Judah. It was a fortified city that played a role in various historical events, such as the time of the Maccabees.

Significance:This verse contributes to the genealogical account of the descendants of Judah. It emphasizes the lineage and succession of fathers and sons, providing a historical record of the Israelite people. It also helps to establish the historical connections and the inheritance of lands and cities within the tribe of Judah.
