Posted on 18 May at 11:31

The one and twentieth to Hothir, he, his sonnes and his brethren were twelue. 1 Chronicles 25:28 (KJV)

he, his sons, and his brethren,

were twelve: 1 Chronicles 25:28 (KJV)

The book of 1 Chronicles is a historical account that focuses on the lineage of David, the establishment of the temple worship, and the organization of the Levites and priests. In Chapter 25, the chapter from which verse 28 is taken, the author describes the divisions of the musicians who served in the house of the Lord. Verse Analysis: 1 Chronicles 25:28 (KJV) says, “The eleventh, Azareel, his sons, and his brethren, twelve.” This verse is part of a list that details the division of the musicians. It specifically mentions the eleventh division, led by a man named Azareel, and indicates that there were twelve individuals in this group, including Azareel, his sons, and his brethren.

The Role of Musicians in Worship:

In the Old Testament, music played an essential role in the worship of God. The musicians were responsible for leading the people in praise and worship, playing various instruments, and composing songs of thanksgiving and adoration. King David himself was known as a skilled musician and songwriter. The organisation of the musicians into divisions ensures that worship was conducted in an orderly and structured manner.

The Significance of Number Twelve:

The number twelve holds symbolic importance in the Bible. It often represents completeness, perfection, and divine governance. In this verse, the mention of twelve individuals within Azareel’s division may reflect the completeness of their service and the divinely ordained order in which they fulfilled their roles as musicians.

Dedication and Service:

This verse highlights the dedication and commitment of Azareel, his sons, and his brethren to their service in the house of the Lord. It emphasises the importance of each individual’s contribution and the unity among the members of their division. It serves as a reminder that every role, no matter how seemingly small or behind the scenes, is valuable in God’s kingdom.
