1 Chronicles 27:11

Posted on 18 May at 11:31

“The eighth captain for the eighth month was Sibbecai the Hushathite, of the Zarhites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.”

This verse is part of a chapter that details the organisation of the military and administrative divisions in King David’s kingdom. David had appointed twelve captains, each serving for a specific month of the year, to oversee divisions of 24,000 soldiers.

In this particular verse, it mentions the eighth captain for the eighth month, who was Sibbecai the Hushathite, belonging to the clan of Zarhites. It states that under his command were twenty-four thousand soldiers who served in his division during that month.

From a historical perspective, this verse provides insight into the military structure and organisation of ancient Israel during the time of King David. It highlights the importance of having strong leadership and well‑organised divisions in maintaining the security and stability of the kingdom.

While this verse may not contain direct spiritual or theological teachings, it offers valuable historical context for understanding the events and administration during the reign of King David. It demonstrates the attention to detail and meticulous planning employed by David to govern the people and protect the nation.

Overall, this verse serves as a reminder of the historical account of Israel’s military organisation during King David’s reign and offers insights into the structure and order that existed during that time.
