1 Chronicles 28:10
Take heed now, for the Lord hath chosen thee to builde an house for the Sanctuarie: be strong, and doe it. 1 Chronicles 28:10 (KJV)
In 1 Chronicles 28 the aging King David gathers the leaders of Israel as he prepares to hand the throne to his son Solomon. He shares the divine vision for the temple that Solomon is to build for the Lord, urging his son to take the task seriously and with confidence. The verse reads, “Take heed now; for the LORD hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.” This charge underscores three essential themes: divine calling, strength, and decisive action.
Divine calling is highlighted in the opening clause, “the LORD hath chosen thee.” Solomon’s appointment was not a matter of human preference but of God’s sovereign selection. The passage reminds every believer that God appoints each person to specific purposes within His plan, and recognizing that calling is the first step toward faithful service.
The exhortation “be strong” calls for both physical stamina and spiritual courage. Constructing the temple would involve immense challenges, opposition, and labor. David’s encouragement invites Solomon—and us—to rely on God’s power while mustering personal resolve. Strength, therefore, is a partnership of divine enablement and human perseverance.
The directive “do it” stresses the necessity of action. Faith is not merely a passive belief; it must be expressed in concrete deeds. Solomon was to move from vision to foundation‑laying, overseeing the work until completion. Likewise, when God entrusts us with a task, He expects us to act, turning intention into tangible results.
Application for today is clear. Each believer has a unique role in God’s kingdom. Recognizing that the Lord has chosen us, drawing strength from Him, and committing to diligent, obedient action are the hallmarks of a faithful response. As we meditate on this passage, may we be encouraged to embrace our divine calling, stand firm in courage, and pursue God’s work with unwavering resolve, trusting that He will sustain us until the work is finished.
