1 Chronicles 3:19
“And the sons of Pedaiah were, Zerubbabel, and Shimei: and the sons of Zerubbabel; Meshullam, and Hananiah, and Shelomith their sister”
Historical Context: The book of 1 Chronicles is part of the Hebrew Bible and provides a genealogical record of the descendants of Adam through the line of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It specifically focuses on the lineage of David and the kings of Judah. This verse is part of a genealogy that traces the descendants of David through his son Solomon.
The Sons of Pedaiah: The verse mentions Pedaiah, who was one of the sons of Jeconiah (also known as Jehoiachin), the king of Judah who was taken captive to Babylon. Pedaiah had two notable sons mentioned in this verse: Zerubbabel and Shimei.
Zerubbabel: Zerubbabel is an important figure in biblical history. He played a significant role in the restoration of Jerusalem and the rebuilding of the temple after the Babylonian exile. He is mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus Christ in the New Testament (Matthew 1:12; Luke 3:27). Zerubbabel’s leadership was instrumental in the rebuilding efforts, and he is often referred to as a governor and a prince.
Meshullam, Hananiah, and Shelomith: These are the three sons of Zerubbabel mentioned in the verse. They were part of the generation that followed Zerubbabel. While not much information is available about these individuals specifically, their names appear elsewhere in the Bible, indicating their presence and influence within the community.
