1 Chronicles 4:10

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

And Iabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest blesse mee indeede, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might bee with me, and that thou wouldest keepe mee from euill, that it may not grieue me. And God granted him that which he requested. 1 Chronicles 4:10 (KJV)

This verse is a part of the genealogical records found in the book of 1 Chronicles, specifically in the chapter that lists the descendants of Judah. Within this long list of genealogies, a few individuals are highlighted for their remarkable characteristics or experiences, and Jabez is one such person.

Jabez’s Prayer: The verse begins by stating that Jabez called on the God of Israel. Jabez’s prayer is presented in a concise and meaningful way, where he expressed four key requests to God: Bless me indeed: Jabez asked for God’s blessings in abundance. He desired God’s favour and prosperity in his life. Enlarge my coast: Jabez sought expansion and increase in his territories, likely referring to his influence, possessions, or opportunities. He desired to go beyond his current boundaries. Let Your hand be with me: Jabez asked for God’s guidance, protection, and provision. He acknowledged his need for God’s presence and support throughout his life. Keep me from evil: Jabez sought deliverance from evil and adversity. He asked for God’s protection and requested that he would not be a cause of pain or sorrow.

God’s Response: The verse concludes by stating that God granted Jabez’s request. God responded positively to Jabez’s prayer, fulfilling his desires. This highlights God’s willingness to listen to the prayers of His people and to bless them according to His will.

Jabez’s prayer demonstrates his faith and dependence on God. It also reflects his desire for a life filled with God’s blessings, protection, and guidance. The fact that God granted Jabez’s request serves as an encouragement for believers to approach God with faith, believing that He hears their prayers and responds according to His divine wisdom.

Jabez’s story is brief but significant, showing that even within the genealogical accounts, individuals can have a profound impact through their faith and prayers. This verse has inspired many believers to approach God with boldness and to seek His blessings in their lives.

In conclusion, 1 Chronicles 4:10 highlights Jabez’s prayer and God’s response to his requests. It encourages believers to approach God with faith, seeking His blessings, guidance, protection, and deliverance. It serves as a reminder of God’s willingness to hear and respond to the prayers of His people.
