1 Chronicles 6:14

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

“And Azariah begat Seraiah, and Seraiah begat Jehozadak,”

Context:The book of 1 Chronicles is a historical record of the genealogy of the Israelites, particularly the tribe of Levi, who were set apart for the service of God in the tabernacle and later in the temple. This verse is part of the genealogical account of the descendants of Levi, specifically the lineage of the high priests.

Azariah:Azariah was a descendant of Levi and belonged to the family of Kohath, which was one of the three main divisions within the tribe of Levi. The Kohathites were responsible for the care and transport of the sacred objects used in worship.

Seraiah:Azariah was the father of Seraiah. Seraiah was also a descendant of Kohath and an ancestor of Jehozadak.

Jehozadak:Seraiah was the father of Jehozadak. Jehozadak is an important figure in the history of Israel because he was the high priest during the Babylonian exile. He was taken captive by Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, when Jerusalem was conquered in 586 BC. Jehozadak’s son, Jeshua, later returned from exile and became the high priest in the rebuilt temple in Jerusalem after the Israelites’ return from Babylon.
