1 Kings 11:41

Posted on 14 Feb at 14:06

And the rest of the actes of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisedome, are they not written in the booke of the actes of Solomon? 1 Kings 11:41 (KJV)

The verse serves as a concluding remark on the life and reign of Solomon, the son of King David and the third king of Israel, and it functions as a transition to the next section of 1 Kings. It points the reader to additional records of Solomon’s deeds that lie beyond the canonical narrative.

Solomon’s accomplishments are highlighted by the reference to a “book of the acts of Solomon.” Although this source is not part of the biblical canon and no copies survive, the mention suggests that there were extensive historical accounts of his reign, his building projects, his wealth, and his famed wisdom. The focus, therefore, is on the breadth and significance of Solomon’s achievements as recorded in the broader historical tradition.

Throughout 1 Kings, Solomon is celebrated for the extraordinary wisdom granted to him by God when he became king (1 Kings 3:5‑14). This wisdom is illustrated in well‑known episodes such as the judgment between two women claiming to be the mother of a child (1 Kings 3:16‑28). The present verse underscores that Solomon’s wisdom was widely recognized and documented.

Lessons and applications emerge from this brief yet rich passage. First, the recognition of God’s blessings: Solomon’s wisdom and accomplishments were gifts of divine favor, reminding believers to acknowledge God as the source of their abilities and to employ them for His glory. Second, the value of recording history: the reference to a separate “book of the acts of Solomon” highlights the importance of preserving written accounts of God’s work, so that future generations can learn from past experiences. Third, the limits of human wisdom: despite his unparalleled insight, Solomon later turned away from God, bringing serious consequences for himself and Israel. This warns that even the wisest are vulnerable to temptation and must guard their hearts through obedience.

Overall, 1 Kings 11:41 reminds us of Solomon’s remarkable wisdom and achievements, calls us to recognize God’s blessings, encourages the diligent recording of God’s deeds, and cautions us to remain steadfast in devotion, regardless of earthly wisdom or success.
