And Elijah said, As the Lord of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will surely shew myself unto him to day.

Context
This verse takes place during a severe drought in Israel, sent by God because of the nation’s idolatry. King Ahab and his wife Jezebel had led the people to worship Baal, and the prophet Elijah had announced that no rain would fall until he said so. Now Elijah speaks to Obadiah, a faithful official in Ahab’s court who secretly protected God’s prophets. Obadiah feared that if Elijah appeared to Ahab and then disappeared, Ahab would kill him. Elijah’s words are a solemn oath to reassure Obadiah that he will indeed meet the king that very day.
