1 Kings 22:52
“And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.”
Walking in the ways of his father:Ahaziah followed in the footsteps of his father, Ahab. Ahab was notorious for his idolatry and disobedience to God. He married Jezebel, a Sidonian princess who promoted the worship of Baal and persecuted the prophets of the Lord. Ahaziah’s adherence to his father’s wicked ways shows the influence of parental example and the persistence of idolatry in the kingdom.
Walking in the ways of his mother:Ahaziah also walked in the ways of his mother, Jezebel. Jezebel was an idolatrous and wicked queen who exercised significant influence over Ahab and the kingdom. She was notorious for her persecution of the prophets of God and her promotion of Baal worship. Ahaziah’s choice to follow the ways of his mother further deepened the idolatrous practices in Israel.
Walking in the ways of Jeroboam:In addition to following the ways of his father and mother, Ahaziah also walked in the ways of Jeroboam. Jeroboam I was the first king of the northern kingdom of Israel after the division of the united monarchy. He introduced a false form of worship, establishing golden calves in Bethel and Dan, in order to prevent the Israelites from going to Jerusalem to worship God. Ahaziah continued this idolatrous tradition and perpetuated the sins introduced by Jeroboam.
