In 1 Kings 9, Solomon completes the construction of the temple and palace. Afterward, God appears to Solomon for the second time, reiterating the importance of following His commandments. God promises to establish Solomon's throne if he remains faithful but warns of dire consequences if he or his descendants turn away from Him.
The chapter highlights Solomon's alliance with King Hiram of Tyre, who provides him with skilled workers and materials for building the temple and palace. Solomon gives Hiram several cities as compensation, but Hiram is dissatisfied and expresses his disappointment. Solomon then reconquers the cities Hiram disliked and gives them back to Israel.
Solomon also undertakes various building projects, including the cities of Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer. He enlists non-Israelites, who were remnants of the Canaanites, to rebuild these cities. However, the chapter mentions that Solomon did not subject the Israelites to forced labor.
