In 1 Peter 2, the apostle Peter encourages believers to lay aside malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and evil speaking, and instead, desire the pure milk of the Word to grow in their salvation. He reminds them that they are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a peculiar people, called to proclaim the praises of God who has called them out of darkness into His marvelous light.
Peter emphasizes the importance of submission and respect for authority, whether it be the governing authorities or masters in the workplace. He encourages believers to endure suffering and persecution, following the example of Christ, who suffered for their sins. Through His wounds, they have been healed and brought near to God.
Peter reminds them of their former state as lost sheep but now have returned to the Shepherd and Bishop of their souls. He urges them to live honorable lives among the Gentiles, abstaining from fleshly lusts and maintaining good conduct so that they may glorify God in the day of visitation.
