1 Samuel 30:3
“So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.”
Context
The book of 1 Samuel provides an account of the life of David, who would eventually become the king of Israel. At this point in the narrative, David was in exile, hiding from King Saul, who sought to kill him. David and his band of six hundred men had settled in the city of Ziklag, which was located in Philistine territory.
The Event
In 1 Samuel 30 we learn that while David and his men were away from Ziklag, the Amalekites raided the city, burning it down and taking captive all the women and children, including David’s two wives, Ahinoam and Michal.
