Again he said, Therefore hear the word of the Lord; I saw the Lord sitting upon his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left.

Context

This verse sits within the account of King Jehoshaphat of Judah and King Ahab of Israel planning war against Ramoth-gilead. Jehoshaphat asks that they first inquire of the Lord, so Ahab summons four hundred prophets who all promise success. When Jehoshaphat presses for a prophet of the Lord, Ahab reluctantly calls Micaiah, whom he dislikes because Micaiah often prophesies trouble for him. Micaiah’s words here are his direct report of a heavenly vision, given in response to Ahab’s demand for a true word from the Lord.

Micaiah begins with the summons, “Therefore hear the word of the LORD,” declaring that what follows is not his own opinion but a divine pronouncement. He then describes seeing the Lord seated upon His throne, with all the host of heaven standing on His right hand and on His left. The throne conveys God’s sovereign rule over all creation, while the heavenly host—understood as angels or the heavenly army—stands ready to serve His commands.
