2 Chronicles 20:22

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

“And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.”

Historical Context: In this chapter, we find King Jehoshaphat facing a formidable alliance of enemies who were preparing to wage war against Judah. Overwhelmed by the imminent threat, Jehoshaphat seeks the Lord’s guidance and calls upon the people to fast and pray. God responds through a prophet, assuring them of His intervention and victory.

  • The Power of Worship and Praise:

Verse 22 emphasizes an essential aspect of this narrative: the act of singing and praising God. As the people of Judah began to sing and praise the Lord, God intervened and caused confusion among their enemies. The children of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir turned against one another, leading to their defeat.

This verse highlights the power of worship and praise in the midst of difficult circumstances. It shows that when we choose to worship God, even in the face of adversity, He can bring about deliverance and victory.

Lessons and Applications:

  • Trusting in God’s Promises: King Jehoshaphat demonstrated great faith by turning to God in prayer and seeking His guidance. Similarly, when we face challenges, our response should be to trust in God’s promises and seek His direction through prayer and seeking His Word.
  • The Power of Unity: The people of Judah came together in unity to seek God’s help. They fasted, prayed, and worshiped together. This unity played a significant role in their victory. It reminds us of the importance of unity among believers and the power it holds.
  • The Weapon of Praise: The act of singing and praising God became a spiritual weapon against the enemy. When we worship and praise God, it shifts our focus from our circumstances to the greatness and faithfulness of God. It reminds us that He is in control and can bring victory in any situation.
  • God’s Sovereign Intervention: God’s intervention in this story demonstrates His sovereignty and His ability to turn the tables in our favour. He caused confusion and defeat among the enemies of Judah. This reminds us that nothing is impossible for God, and He can bring about victory in ways we may not expect.

Overall, 2 Chronicles 20:22 teaches us the power of worship and praise, the importance of trusting in God’s promises, and the significance of unity among believers. It encourages us to turn to God in times of trouble, putting our faith in Him and allowing Him to fight our battles.
