2 Chronicles 20:25

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

And when Iehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoile of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious iewels (which they stript off for themselues) more then they could cary away: and they were three dayes in gathering of the spoile, it was so much. 2 Chronicles 20:25 (KJV)

This verse is part of a larger passage describing King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah’s victory over the Moabites and Ammonites. The story begins in 2 Chronicles 20 when Jehoshaphat received news of a great multitude coming against him. Facing this formidable threat, he proclaimed a fast throughout Judah and sought the Lord for guidance. He assembled the people in Jerusalem and prayed, acknowledging God’s power and asking for help.

In response, God spoke through a prophet, assuring them of victory and urging them not to fear, but to stand firm and see the salvation of the Lord. The next morning Jehoshaphat and the people went out, not to engage in battle, but to worship the Lord. As they sang and praised Him, the Lord set ambushes against the Moabites and Ammonites, causing confusion that led the enemies to turn on one another and destroy themselves.

When Jehoshaphat and his people arrived at the battlefield they found the enemy camp filled with dead bodies and an abundance of riches and precious jewels (or stones). The wealth was so great that they could not carry it all, and it took them three days to gather the spoil because it was so plentiful.

The passage teaches several lessons. First, trusting in God: Jehoshaphat’s initial response of prayer and fasting was rewarded with a miraculous victory, reminding believers to turn to God in challenges. Second, the power of praise: worship and praise led to the confusion and self‑destruction of the enemies, illustrating how worship can be a weapon in spiritual warfare. Third, God’s abundant provision: beyond delivering them, God blessed them with great wealth, showing that alignment with His purposes brings material blessings. Fourth, the importance of diligence: gathering the spoils required three days of careful work, highlighting the responsibility to manage God’s blessings wisely.

In conclusion, 2 Chronicles 20:25 showcases the outcome of Jehoshaphat’s faith, the effectiveness of worship, God’s generous provision, and the need for diligent stewardship. It encourages believers to trust God, worship Him, and faithfully manage the blessings He provides.
