2 Chronicles 20:30

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

“So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.”

This verse comes from the Old Testament book of 2 Chronicles, which provides an account of the reigns of various kings of Judah. In this particular chapter, King Jehoshaphat is faced with a formidable enemy alliance that has come against Judah.

Here are some key points to consider in this verse and its context:

Jehoshaphat’s Circumstances:Prior to the events described in this verse, Jehoshaphat had received news of a great multitude coming against him from beyond the sea. Faced with such a daunting situation, Jehoshaphat sought the Lord and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. The people gathered together in Jerusalem to seek God’s help (2 Chronicles 20:1-4).

God’s Response:Jehoshaphat prayed to God in front of the assembly, acknowledging God’s sovereignty and power, and recounting how God had been faithful to their ancestors. He cried out to God, confessing their helplessness and asking for His intervention (2 Chronicles 20:5-12).

God’s Promise and Assurance:In response to Jehoshaphat’s prayer, the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel, a Levite, who delivered a message from God. The message assured Jehoshaphat and the people that the battle was not theirs but God’s. They were instructed to position themselves and stand firm, witnessing the salvation of the Lord (2 Chronicles 20:14-17).

Worship and Praise:In obedience to God’s word, Jehoshaphat appointed singers to go before the army, praising God with songs of thanksgiving. As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the enemy forces, causing confusion and division among them (2 Chronicles 20:18-23).

Victory and Rest:When Judah’s enemies turned against one another, the army of Judah didn’t even have to fight. They went out to gather the spoil of the defeated enemy, and the Lord gave them rest from their enemies. As a result, Jehoshaphat’s realm experienced peace and tranquility (2 Chronicles 20:24-30).

The verse in question, 2 Chronicles 20:30, highlights the outcome of the events described above. It signifies the end of the conflict and the restoration of peace and rest to Jehoshaphat and his kingdom. It is attributed to God’s faithfulness and intervention on behalf of His people.

This verse serves as a powerful reminder that when we face overwhelming challenges or enemies, we can turn to God in prayer and seek His guidance and help. Like Jehoshaphat, we can place our trust in God’s promises and take comfort in knowing that the battle is ultimately the Lord’s. When we put our faith in Him, He can bring about victory and grant us the peace and rest we need.

2 Chronicles 20:30 also demonstrates the importance of worship and praise in the face of adversity. Jehoshaphat’s act of appointing singers to lead the way in worship and thanksgiving before the battle reveals the power of praise to God. It sets an example for us to respond to difficulties with a heart of worship, recognizing God’s sovereignty and expressing our gratitude for His faithfulness. Worship not only honors God but can also lead to breakthroughs and victories in our lives.

Overall, this verse showcases God’s faithfulness, His response to sincere prayer, and the power of worship and praise. It encourages us to trust in God’s promises, seek Him in times of trouble, and approach challenging situations with a heart of worship and gratitude.
