2 Chronicles 26:11

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

“Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king’s captains.”

This verse is a part of the account of King Uzziah (also known as Azariah) who ruled over the kingdom of Judah for 52 years. He was one of the righteous kings of Judah who sought the Lord and followed in the ways of his father, Amaziah.

Here are some key points and lessons we can gather from this verse:

  • Uzziah’s military strength:The verse highlights that Uzziah had a well-organised army composed of fighting men who went out to war in bands. This suggests that Uzziah had a structured military force under his command, capable of defending and protecting the kingdom of Judah.
  • Uzziah’s reliance on skilled individuals:Uzziah entrusted the management of his military forces to capable individuals such as Jeiel the scribe, Maaseiah the ruler, and Hananiah, one of the king’s captains. This demonstrates Uzziah’s wisdom in appointing competent and skilled leaders to oversee different aspects of his kingdom.
  • The importance of organisation and accountability:The mention of numbering the fighting men by Jeiel the scribe implies that Uzziah’s military was organised and well-accounted for. This emphasis on organisation and accountability is crucial for the effectiveness and efficiency of any army or organisation.
  • Leadership and delegation:Uzziah’s ability to delegate responsibilities to capable individuals is a valuable lesson in leadership. A leader should recognise the strengths and skills of those around them and empower them to fulfil their roles effectively. By entrusting his military to skilled leaders, Uzziah demonstrated wise leadership.

Overall, this verse highlights Uzziah’s military strength, his reliance on capable individuals, and the importance of organisation and accountability. It also offers valuable lessons in leadership and delegation.
