2 Chronicles 28:22

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

“And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against the LORD: this is that king Ahaz.”

Historical Context: – King Ahaz was the king of Judah, who reigned from approximately 735 BC to 715 BC.

  • Ahaz was an unfaithful king who did not follow the ways of the Lord. He worshiped idols and led the people of Judah astray.
  • Ahaz’s Distress: The verse mentions the time of his distress. This refers to a period of difficulty or trouble that Ahaz faced during his reign.
  • The distress of Ahaz was a consequence of his unfaithfulness to the Lord. God allowed affliction to come upon him and the kingdom of Judah as a form of discipline for their disobedience.
  • Trespassing Against the Lord: Despite being in a time of distress, Ahaz continued to trespass against the Lord. He did not turn to God for help or seek His guidance.
  • Ahaz’s trespasses likely refer to his ongoing idolatry and disregard for the commandments of God. He persisted in his sinful ways and did not repent.

Lessons for Us:

  • Ahaz’s example serves as a warning about the consequences of disobedience and unfaithfulness to God. Even in times of distress, it is crucial to seek the Lord’s guidance and remain obedient to His commands.
  • This verse highlights the danger of persisting in sin and ignoring God’s correction. Ahaz’s continued trespassing against the Lord only led to further trouble and judgment upon himself and his kingdom.
  • God’s Faithfulness and Grace: Although Ahaz was unfaithful, God remained faithful to His covenant with the people of Judah. The distress they faced was a result of their own actions, but God still extended His grace and mercy.
  • In the following verses, we see how God sent prophets to admonish the people and provide an opportunity for repentance. He desired to turn their hearts back to Him.
