2 Chronicles 30:26

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

“So there was great joy in Jerusalem: for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was not the like in Jerusalem.”

Context:The verse is part of the account of King Hezekiah’s Passover celebration and the subsequent revival in Judah. After many years of neglecting the Passover, King Hezekiah sought to reinstate the feast and invite the people of Judah and Israel to participate. Despite initial resistance and divisions among the people, many from both kingdoms responded to the king’s call and gathered in Jerusalem for the Passover.

Rediscovery of the Passover:The Passover was a significant festival commemorating God’s deliverance of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. During the reigns of previous kings, the Passover had been neglected. However, King Hezekiah, with a heart for God and a desire to restore the proper worship of Yahweh, took action to reinstate the celebration of this important feast.

Unity among the people:The verse highlights the unity and joy that filled Jerusalem during the Passover celebration. It notes that such a great celebration had not been seen in Jerusalem since the time of King Solomon, who was known for his wisdom, wealth, and glorious reign. The people, both from Judah and Israel, came together in obedience to the king’s call, putting aside their differences and divisions for the sake of worshiping the Lord.

God’s favour and blessing:The verse implies that God’s presence and favour were evident during the Passover celebration. The joy experienced by the people was a result of their obedience and commitment to the Lord’s commands. It reflects the blessings that come from aligning ourselves with God’s will and worshiping Him with sincerity.

Lessons we can learn from 2 Chronicles 30:26:

The importance of rediscovering and returning to God’s commands:Like King Hezekiah, we should have a heart to restore and revive God’s ways in our lives and communities. The neglect of important spiritual practices can hinder our relationship with God, and it is essential to prioritise reconnecting with His commandments.

The power of unity and gathering together:The Passover celebration in Jerusalem serves as a reminder of the significance of unity among God’s people. Despite differences and past divisions, the people came together to worship, experience joy, and receive blessings. We should strive for unity among believers, setting aside differences and working together for the common purpose of honouring and serving God.

The joy and blessing of walking in obedience:Obedience to God’s commands brings joy and favour from Him. When we align our lives with His will and seek to follow His ways, we open ourselves up to experiencing His blessings and presence.

Overall, 2 Chronicles 30:26 encourages us to restore neglected spiritual practices, seek unity among believers, and walk in obedience to God’s commands. It reminds us of the joy and blessings that come from aligning our lives with His will.
