2 Chronicles 32:16

Posted on 18 May at 11:39

And his seruants spake yet more against the Lord God, and against his seruant Hezekiah. 2 Chronicles 32:16 (KJV)

The verse is part of the account of King Hezekiah’s reign in the book of 2 Chronicles. Hezekiah was a righteous king who sought to reform Judah and lead the people back to the worship of the true God. During his reign the Assyrian king Sennacherib launched a military campaign against Judah, threatening to conquer Jerusalem. In response Hezekiah fortified the city and encouraged the people to trust in the Lord for deliverance.

In this verse it is recorded that, despite Hezekiah’s trust in God and his efforts to defend Jerusalem, some of Sennacherib’s servants spoke against the Lord and against Hezekiah. Their words were not merely criticism of a human ruler but a direct attack on the LORD God Himself.

The passage reminds us that even when we are striving to follow God faithfully and do what is right, opposition can arise from unexpected sources. The danger of speaking against God is highlighted by the fact that these servants chose to denigrate both the king and the Almighty.

Hezekiah’s response to such opposition was to place his confidence wholly in the Lord and to seek divine guidance. His example shows the importance of unwavering faith in the face of hostile counsel.

Application: Believers today should recognize that criticism and opposition may come from unlikely quarters, yet we are called to trust in God’s guidance and remain firm in our faith. We must be mindful of our words and attitudes toward God, avoiding speech that questions or undermines His plans. By cultivating unwavering faith in difficult times, seeking God’s direction, and relying on His strength, we can overcome challenges just as Hezekiah did.
