2 Chronicles 35:14

Posted on 18 May at 11:39

And afterward they made ready for themselues, and for the Priests: because the Priests the sonnes of Aaron were busied in offring of burnt offrings, and the fat vntill night: therefore the Leuites prepared for themselues, and for the Priests the sonnes of Aaron. 2 Chronicles 35:14 (KJV)

“And the priests the children of Aaron were the keepers of the charge of the burnt offering, and of the meat offering, and of the drink offering, a daily service for the LORD.”

This verse is part of the account of King Josiah’s celebration of the Passover.

In the context of the chapter, Josiah had initiated a religious revival and restoration of worship in Judah.

As part of his reforms, he decided to celebrate the Passover, which had not been observed properly for a long time.

In verse 14, we see the assignment of duties to the priests, who were the descendants of Aaron.

The priests were specifically charged with the burnt offering, the meat offering, and the drink offering, all performed as a regular service to the LORD.

While this verse focuses on the priests’ responsibilities, other passages in the chapter describe the Levites’ supporting role in the ceremony.

The Levites assisted in various tasks related to the temple worship, such as preparing the sanctuary, singing, and helping with the overall organization of the festival.

The passage describes the division of labor between the Levites and priests during this event.

The Levites were responsible for slaughtering the Passover lambs and preparing the sacrifices, while the priests handled the ritual aspects such as sprinkling the blood on the altar.

This arrangement followed the Mosaic law, where Levites assisted priests in temple duties.

The collaboration between these groups demonstrates the importance of coordinated service in worship, with each group fulfilling distinct but complementary roles.

This division of responsibilities between the priests and the Levites highlights the importance of teamwork and coordination in carrying out religious ceremonies and rituals.

It also emphasizes the significance of everyone’s role in the worship of God.

While the priests had specific duties related to the sacrifices, the Levites played a crucial supporting role in ensuring that the offerings were properly prepared and the worship was conducted in an orderly manner.

This verse can also serve as a reminder to us today about the importance of serving God and carrying out our responsibilities faithfully.

Each person has unique gifts and talents that can be used in the service of God and others.

Just as the priests and Levites worked together harmoniously, we are encouraged to work together in unity, using our individual strengths to contribute to the worship and service of God.

In conclusion, 2 Chronicles 35:14 highlights the priestly duties during the celebration of the Passover under King Josiah’s reign.

It emphasizes the importance of teamwork, coordination, and each person’s role in serving God.
