2 Chronicles 6:15

Posted on 18 May at 11:39

Thou which hast kept with thy seruant Dauid my father, that which thou hast promised him: and spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day. 2 Chronicles 6:15 (KJV)

Context: This verse is part of Solomon’s prayer of dedication for the newly built temple in Jerusalem. Solomon acknowledges God’s faithfulness in keeping His promises to David, Solomon’s father. It reflects Solomon’s understanding of God’s covenant with David and his appreciation for the fulfillment of those promises.

Key Themes: God’s Faithfulness – Solomon recognizes and appreciates God’s faithfulness in keeping His promises to David. He acknowledges that God spoke with His mouth and fulfilled His promises with His hand, demonstrating that God is a faithful and trustworthy God who honors His word. Davidic Covenant – Solomon refers to the covenant that God made with David, promising that his descendants would always sit on the throne of Israel (2 Samuel 7:12‑16). Solomon acknowledges that God has fulfilled this promise by allowing him to succeed David as king, a covenant of great significance as he undertakes the task of building the temple and ruling over Israel. Acknowledging God’s Action – Solomon attributes the fulfillment of God’s promises to His divine intervention and sovereignty. He recognizes that it is by God’s hand that the promises made to David have come to pass, highlighting the power and authority of God in fulfilling His purposes.

Application: Trust in God’s Promises – Just as God remained faithful to His promises to David, we can trust that He will be faithful to His promises to us. We should hold onto God’s word and trust that He will fulfill what He has spoken, requiring patience and unwavering faith in His faithfulness. Remember God’s Faithfulness – Reflecting on God’s faithfulness in the past can provide us with assurance and confidence in the present. It is essential to look back and remember how God has fulfilled His promises in our lives and in the lives of those who came before us; this remembrance can strengthen our faith and encourage us to continue trusting in Him. Surrender to God’s Sovereignty – Solomon’s acknowledgment of God’s hand in fulfilling His promises reminds us of God’s sovereignty and control over all things. We should submit ourselves to His authority and trust that He will work out His plans and purposes in our lives according to His perfect will.

In conclusion, 2 Chronicles 6:15 highlights God’s faithfulness in keeping His promises and the importance of trusting in His word. It reminds us of the significance of the Davidic covenant, encourages us to remember God’s faithfulness in the past, and calls us to surrender to God’s sovereignty and trust in His plan for our lives.
