2 Chronicles 7:11

Posted on 18 May at 11:39

“Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD, and the king’s house: and all that came into Solomon’s heart to make in the house of the LORD, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.”

Context:This verse is part of the account of the completion of the construction of the temple in Jerusalem during the reign of King Solomon. The preceding verses describe the dedication of the temple, the offering of sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filling the house. After these events, God appears to Solomon at night and speaks to him, offering him a promise and a warning.

Solomon’s Completion of the Temple:The verse highlights the successful completion of the temple of the Lord by King Solomon. It signifies the fulfillment of Solomon’s task and his faithfulness in building the house of God according to God’s instructions. It underscores the importance of completing the work that God has assigned to us, with excellence and dedication.

God’s Prosperity:The verse states that Solomon “prosperously effected” all that he had in his heart to do for the house of the Lord and his own house. This prosperity is a testament to God’s favour and blessing upon Solomon. It teaches us that when we prioritise God’s work and align our desires with His will, He blesses our efforts and enables us to prosper in our endeavours.

  • Faithfulness in Assignments:Just as Solomon was faithful in constructing the temple, we are called to be faithful in the tasks God has given us. Whether it is serving in ministry, pursuing a career, or carrying out our daily responsibilities, our faithfulness reflects our devotion to God.
  • Seeking God’s Will:Solomon’s success was rooted in his desire to fulfill what came into his heart “to make in the house of the Lord.” We should likewise seek God’s will for our lives, aligning our desires with His purposes. When our plans are in harmony with God’s plan, we can expect His guidance and blessing.
  • God’s Blessing and Prosperity:The verse emphasises that it was God who brought prosperity to Solomon’s efforts. While we work diligently, we must remember that it is ultimately God who provides success and blessing. Trusting in God’s provision and seeking His kingdom first should be our priority.
  • Completing the Work:Solomon’s successful completion of the temple demonstrates the importance of perseverance and finishing what we have started. We should not grow weary or give up on the tasks God has entrusted to us, but rather press on until we see them through to completion.
