2 Corinthians 1:2

Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 1:2 (KJV)

Paul opens his second letter to the church in Corinth with a greeting that is both a prayer and a blessing. Writing with Timothy to believers in Corinth and throughout Achaia, he sets the tone for the entire letter by wishing them grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

“Grace” is God’s unmerited favour, kindness, and divine assistance. Through grace, believers are saved, reconciled to God, and empowered to live holy lives. Paul consistently teaches that salvation and the Christian life rest on God’s grace, not human merit.

“Peace” in the biblical sense is more than the absence of conflict. It is a state of wholeness, well-being, and inner tranquility that comes from being in a right relationship with God. Through Christ’s sacrifice, sins are forgiven, and believers enjoy peace with God—a peace that surpasses human understanding and sustains them in trials.

The greeting names both God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ as the source of grace and peace. This affirms the divine nature of these blessings and the unity of the Father and the Son in bestowing them. It also highlights the relational character of God, who is not distant but a Father to His people.

Believers today can receive this same grace and peace. Grace reminds them that their standing with God is a gift, not an achievement. Peace assures them that through Christ they are reconciled to God and can face life’s challenges with confidence and comfort.

This verse invites readers to receive God’s grace and peace daily, knowing they come from the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a call to live in the reality of these blessings and to extend them to others.
