2 Kings 14:22

Posted on 18 May at 11:19

He built Elath, and restored it to Iudah, after that the king slept with his fathers. 2 Kings 14:22 (KJV)

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” This verse is from Psalm 23:1 in the Book of Psalms. To understand its significance, it is important to recognize that this is a psalm of David expressing deep trust in God’s care and provision.

Context: To understand the significance of this verse, it is helpful to consider its place within the Book of Psalms. Psalm 23 is traditionally attributed to King David and expresses confidence in God’s care and provision.

Historical Background: Psalm 23 was composed during the period of the united monarchy under David, long before the divided kingdoms of Israel and Judah. It reflects a personal declaration of trust rather than a record of national events. The imagery of the Lord as a shepherd conveys guidance, protection, and abundant sustenance for those who follow Him.

Throughout Scripture, shepherding is a recurring metaphor for God’s relationship with His people, emphasizing His personal involvement and faithful leadership. This verse invites reflection on God’s unwavering commitment to meet the needs of His children, offering comfort and assurance in all circumstances.

Lessons for us: This verse reminds believers of God’s faithful provision. This verse teaches that reliance on God leads to peace and confidence, even amid life’s challenges. As believers, we are called to trust in His provision and follow His leading, knowing that He is sufficient for every need.

Application: As we reflect on this verse, we are encouraged to seek God’s guidance and trust in His care. By aligning our lives with God’s will, we can experience spiritual nourishment and assurance.
