2 Kings 15:3

Posted on 18 May at 11:19

And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah had done; 2 Kings 15:3 (KJV)

Context: 2 Kings is a historical book that records the reigns of various kings in Israel and Judah. In this verse it refers to the reign of King Azariah, also known as Uzziah, of Judah, who reigned for fifty‑two years.

Righteousness in God’s Sight:

The verse states that Azariah did what was right in the sight of the Lord, indicating he followed God’s ways and sought to please Him. This highlights the importance of living according to God’s standards rather than human opinions.

Walking in the Footsteps of His Father:

The verse notes Azariah’s actions aligned with those of his father, Amaziah. Amaziah was king of Judah and did what was right in the sight of the Lord. However, he did not remove the high places where people offered sacrifices (2 Kings 14:3‑4).

Influence of Godly Parenting:

Azariah’s faithfulness to God was influenced by his father’s example. Amaziah set a precedent of righteousness before God, and Azariah followed suit, demonstrating the impact of godly parenting on future generations. Azariah’s actions were measured according to all that his father Amaziah had done.

God’s Blessings:

Azariah’s commitment to righteousness brought God’s favor. In the following verses (2 Kings 15:4‑5) God blessed him with success in military campaigns against the Philistines, Ammonites, and other nations, showing that obedience and faithfulness to God often lead to His blessings.
