2 Kings 4:14

“And he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, Verily she hath no child, and her husband is old.”

Certainly! Here is a Bible study on Verse: “And he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, Verily she hath no child, and her husband is old.” (2 Kings 4:14, KJV)

Context:This verse is part of a story involving the prophet Elisha and a wealthy woman from Shunem who showed hospitality to Elisha by providing him with a place to stay whenever he passed through her town. She went above and beyond by even building a small room on her rooftop for Elisha to stay in, furnished with a bed, a table, a chair, and a lampstand.

Hospitality and Generosity:This story highlights the virtues of hospitality and generosity. The woman from Shunem demonstrated great kindness by providing a place for Elisha to stay whenever he visited her town. In what ways can we show hospitality and generosity to others today? How can we make others feel welcome and cared for?

Recognition of Needs:In the verse, Gehazi, Elisha’s servant, points out that the woman has no child and her husband is old. This indicates that she is facing a personal challenge or longing for a child. It is important to recognize the needs and desires of those around us. How can we be attentive to the needs of others? How can we offer support and encouragement to those facing challenges?

God’s Provision:The woman’s hospitality was rewarded by God. In the subsequent verses (2 Kings 4:15-17), Elisha prophesied that she would have a son, even though she and her husband were old. God fulfilled His promise, and the woman conceived and bore a son. This miracle demonstrates that God is able to provide and bless us abundantly. How have you experienced God’s provision and blessings in your life? How can we trust in God’s faithfulness and provision, even in challenging circumstances?

Faith and Patience:Prior to the miracle, the woman had likely given up hope of having a child due to her age and her husband’s old age. However, God’s timing is often different from ours, and He can bring about miracles when we least expect them. It is important to maintain faith and patience, even when facing seemingly impossible situations. Have you ever had to wait patiently for God’s timing in your life? How did your faith grow during that time?

Gratitude and Testimony:The woman expressed gratitude and testified to God’s faithfulness when her son fell ill and died later in the story (2 Kings 4:18-37). She went to Elisha and trusted in God’s power to bring her son back to life. In the end, her son was restored to life through Elisha’s prayer. How can we cultivate an attitude of gratitude and give testimony to God’s faithfulness in our lives? How can our own testimonies encourage and strengthen others in their faith?

These are some key points to consider when studying 2 Kings 4:14. The story of the woman from Shunem teaches us about the importance of hospitality, recognizing the needs of others, God’s provision, faith, patience, gratitude, and giving testimony to His faithfulness.
