In 2 Kings 8, we witness the remarkable account of a Shunammite woman who is restored to her land through the intervention of Elisha. The prophet had previously prophesied about a seven-year famine, and when it ends, the woman returns to appeal to the king for the restoration of her house and lands. Coincidentally, the king is speaking with Gehazi, Elisha's servant, who happens to be recounting the miraculous resurrection of the Shunammite woman's son by Elisha. Just as Gehazi is telling the story, the woman appears, and the king grants her request.
Later, the king of Syria becomes seriously ill, and he sends his servant Hazael to inquire of the prophet Elisha regarding his recovery. Elisha reveals to Hazael that the king's condition is terminal and foretells the atrocities that Hazael himself will commit once he assumes the throne.
The chapter concludes by mentioning the reigns of Joram, the son of Ahab, over Israel and Ahaziah, the son of Jehoram, over Judah.
