2 Samuel 10:12
“Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the Lord do that which seemeth him good.”
This verse is part of a historical account found in the Second Book of Samuel, which documents the reign of King David over Israel. In this particular chapter, David sends a delegation of his men to the king of the Ammonites to express condolences on the death of his father, the previous king, and to establish friendly relations. It reminds the soldiers that their efforts should be accompanied by a trust in God’s providence and sovereignty. They are to do their part, but the outcome ultimately rests in God’s hands. It reflects a humble recognition that their efforts and courage must be coupled with reliance on God’s will and guidance.
