And Adoram was ouer the tribute, and Iehoshaphat the sonne of Ahilud was Recorder. 2 Samuel 20:24 (KJV)

“And Adoram was over the tribute: and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder.” This verse appears in 2 Samuel 20:24, describing officials in King David’s administration. In this verse we encounter two individuals mentioned: Adoram and Jehoshaphat, who held important positions in David’s administration. Adoram was in charge of the tribute, the taxes or tribute payments that were collected from the Israelites and other subject peoples to support the kingdom. Adoram oversaw tribute collection, which involved gathering taxes from Israelites and subject peoples to support the kingdom. His role was likely to oversee the collection and management of these taxes. Jehoshaphat, the son of Ahilud, served as recorder—a high‑ranking official responsible for maintaining historical, legal, and administrative records. The recorder was a high‑ranking official in the king’s court responsible for keeping records and documents. They maintained important historical, legal, and administrative records, documenting important events, decisions, and decrees within the kingdom. These roles highlight the structured governance of David’s kingdom, emphasizing efficient tax management and meticulous record‑keeping as essential elements of royal administration. This verse serves as a glimpse into the organisation and administration of David’s kingdom. It highlights the importance of efficient tax collection and the need to maintain accurate records. It also demonstrates David’s reliance on capable individuals to handle various administrative duties. Although this verse may appear brief and primarily informative, it provides valuable insights into the governance and structure of ancient Israel during David’s reign.
