Summery

2 Samuel 13 recounts the tragic events that unfold within King David's family. Amnon, David's eldest son, falls in love with his half-sister Tamar, who is the sister of Absalom. Consumed by his desire, Amnon feigns illness and requests Tamar's presence. Oblivious to his sinister intentions, Tamar arrives and prepares food for him. Seizing the opportunity, Amnon forces himself upon Tamar, violating her.

Devastated by the assault, Tamar tearfully pleads with Amnon to marry her, but he refuses. She is left desolate and disgraced. Absalom, Tamar's brother, learns of the incident and, filled with rage, waits for the right moment to avenge his sister.

When two years pass, Absalom invites all of David's sons to a sheep-shearing feast, including Amnon. During the celebration, Absalom orders his servants to kill Amnon, fulfilling his vow for revenge. Chaos erupts as the other brothers flee in fear.

This chapter illustrates the consequences of David's past actions and reveals the tragic consequences of Amnon's lustful desires. The narrative sets the stage for future turmoil within David's kingdom.
