2 Thessalonians 3:16

Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.

2 Thessalonians 3:16 (KJV)

The Apostle Paul wrote the second letter to the Thessalonians to address concerns in the early Christian community. In the concluding remarks, he offers a prayer for peace and the Lord’s presence among the believers.

Paul begins by acknowledging God as the “Lord of peace.” This title emphasizes that peace originates from God Himself. It signifies that God is the source and provider of true peace, not only externally but also within the hearts and lives of believers.

Paul’s prayer is for the Thessalonian believers to experience peace continually. The peace he refers to encompasses not only a lack of conflict or external disturbances but also a deep inner peace that transcends circumstances. This peace is rooted in a harmonious relationship with God and a sense of wholeness and well-being.

Paul expresses his desire for the Thessalonians to experience peace “by all means.” This phrase indicates that God can bring about peace through various channels, methods, or circumstances. It demonstrates God’s sovereignty and ability to work in different ways to grant peace to His people.

Paul concludes the verse by expressing his wish for the Lord to be with all the Thessalonian believers. This indicates his desire for them to experience the intimate presence and companionship of God in their lives. The presence of the Lord brings comfort, guidance, strength, and assurance.

This benediction extends to all believers, not just a select few. The peace prayed for includes a conscience peace, made possible through the work of Christ, and the peace that comes from faith in Him. Believers today can pray this same prayer for one another, asking that the Lord of peace would grant His peace always and in every way, and that His presence would abide with the whole community of faith.

How might you seek the peace of Christ today, not only in outward circumstances but in the depths of your heart? Consider praying this benediction over your own life and over fellow believers, trusting that the Lord of peace is both willing and able to give peace always by all means.
