“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

Context:All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Timothy 3:16 (KJV)

Now let’s break down this verse and explore its meaning:

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God”:This statement emphasizes the divine origin and authority of the scriptures. It tells us that the Bible is not merely the work of human authors but is inspired by God Himself. The words and teachings contained in the Bible are a product of God’s influence and guidance.

“and is profitable for doctrine”:The term “doctrine” refers to teachings or principles of faith. This part of the verse suggests that the scriptures are valuable for establishing and understanding the core beliefs and principles of the Christian faith. The Bible provides us with a foundation for our faith and instructs us in the fundamental truths of Christianity.

“for reproof”:The word “reproof” means the act of correcting or admonishing someone. In this context, it signifies that the scriptures are useful for convicting people of their errors, sins, and wrong beliefs. The Bible has the power to expose our shortcomings and provide correction when we stray from the truth.

“for correction”:This phrase goes hand in hand with the previous one. The scriptures not only identify our errors but also guide us in making the necessary corrections. Through the Bible, God reveals His will, His standards, and His instructions for righteous living. It helps us realign ourselves with His truth and correct our paths when we have gone astray.

“for instruction in righteousness”:The final part of the verse highlights that the scriptures serve as a source of instruction or training in righteousness. It teaches us how to live in a way that is pleasing to God and in accordance with His principles. The Bible provides guidance and wisdom to help us grow spiritually, make moral decisions, and live a life that reflects God’s righteousness.
