In 2 Timothy 4, the apostle Paul, nearing the end of his life, exhorts Timothy, his beloved disciple, to be faithful and steadfast in carrying out his ministry. Paul solemnly charges Timothy to preach the Word of God in all circumstances, whether convenient or not. He warns of a time when people will turn away from sound doctrine and embrace teachings that satisfy their own desires. Paul urges Timothy to remain vigilant, fulfill his ministry, and endure hardships, just as he himself has done.
Paul also shares his personal experiences and expresses his confidence in the Lord's deliverance. He mentions having been abandoned by some of his companions but acknowledges the presence of the Lord by his side. Paul then requests that Timothy come to him as soon as possible and bring Mark with him. Paul values Mark's service and deems him helpful for ministry.
In the final part of the chapter, Paul mentions various individuals who have either helped or harmed him during his ministry. He recounts his defense before his first trial and states that the Lord stood by him, strengthening him to proclaim the Gospel. Paul concludes by expressing his hope that the Lord will deliver him from every evil and preserve him for His heavenly kingdom.
