And the sonnes of Eliphaz were, Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz. Genesis 36:11 (KJV)

Genesis 36:11 is part of the genealogy of Esau, also called Edom. This chapter gives a detailed account of the descendants of Esau, who became the father of the Edomites. The verse focuses on the sons of Esau’s firstborn son, Eliphaz, and therefore contributes to the larger narrative of the Edomite nation.

Eliphaz was the firstborn son of Esau and his wife Adah. As the firstborn, Eliphaz played a significant role in the genealogy of the Edomites, and the verse lists his sons.

Teman was one of the sons of Eliphaz. The name “Teman” can also refer to a region in Edom associated with this son. In the Bible, Job had a friend named Eliphaz the Temanite, possibly descended from this line.

Omar was another son of Eliphaz. The biblical text provides little additional information about him beyond his inclusion in the genealogy.

Zepho was one of the sons of Eliphaz. Like Omar, the Scriptures give only limited detail about Zepho’s life or role.

Gatam was another son of Eliphaz. As with the other younger sons, the biblical narrative does not elaborate further on his activities or significance.

Kenaz was the final son mentioned in this verse. The Bible likewise offers no extensive information about Kenaz beyond his placement in the family list.

This verse serves to establish the lineage and descendants of Eliphaz, which is significant for tracing the history of the Edomites. By naming each son, the passage highlights the multiplication of Esau’s family and underscores the prominence of Eliphaz as the firstborn of Esau. The genealogy helps readers understand the development of the nation of Edom and the place each named individual holds within that broader ancestral record.
