1 Kings Chapter 22

Summery

1 Kings 22 recounts the events surrounding the alliance between the kings of Israel and Judah to reclaim Ramoth-gilead from the Syrians. Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, agrees to join forces with Ahab, the king of Israel. Before engaging in battle, Jehoshaphat requests counsel from the prophets. Ahab's prophets assure him of victory, but Jehoshaphat seeks the advice of a true prophet of God. Micaiah, the prophet, foretells disaster and reveals a vision of God's heavenly council where a deceiving spirit is sent to entice Ahab into battle. Despite Micaiah's warning, Ahab disregards it and proceeds with the plan.

In the ensuing battle, Ahab disguises himself while Jehoshaphat wears his royal attire. However, an arrow shot at random strikes Ahab, fulfilling the prophecy of his downfall. Ahab dies, and his body is brought to Samaria for burial. Jehoshaphat returns to Jerusalem in peace, ruling over Judah.
