Ezekiel 44 describes a vision where the prophet is brought to the outer sanctuary of the Lord’s temple. He sees a closed gate that no one is allowed to enter except the Lord and the prince. The Lord explains that this gate is to remain shut because the Lord has entered through it and it is holy.
The Lord then instructs Ezekiel to pay attention to the rules regarding the priests. He reveals that the Levites who had strayed away from Him by serving idols would no longer be allowed to approach Him or serve as His priests. Instead, He appoints the sons of Zadok as the priests who will minister to Him in the sanctuary.
These faithful priests are given specific instructions to follow, including wearing linen garments and not having their heads shaved. They are also responsible for teaching the people the difference between what is holy and what is profane, and for upholding the laws of the Lord.
