2 Chronicles 36 is the final chapter of the book of 2 Chronicles in the King James Version of the Bible. It describes the downfall of the kingdom of Judah and the exile of its people to Babylon due to their persistent disobedience to God.
The chapter begins by introducing Jehoahaz, who becomes king of Judah after his father Josiah's death. However, his reign is short-lived as he is quickly dethroned by Pharaoh Necho of Egypt and taken captive to Egypt. Necho appoints Jehoahaz's brother, Jehoiakim, as king instead.
Jehoiakim reigns for eleven years, during which he continues the sinful ways of his predecessors. The Babylonian king, Nebuchadnezzar, invades Judah and takes Jehoiakim captive, along with valuable items from the temple in Jerusalem. Jehoiakim dies in Babylon, and his son Jehoiachin becomes the new king, but he too is soon taken captive to Babylon.
The chapter concludes by describing the reign of Zedekiah, the last king of Judah. Zedekiah rebels against Nebuchadnezzar, leading to the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. The Babylonians burn the city and carry off the remaining people as captives to Babylon, marking the end of the kingdom of Judah.
