All

this, said David, the LORD made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern. 1 Chronicles 28:19 (KJV)

Context: The book of 1 Chronicles records the genealogy of the Israelites and provides historical accounts of King David’s reign and preparations for the construction of the temple. In this particular chapter, David addresses the assembly of leaders, priests, and Levites, and he shares his plans for building the temple.

David’s Preparation: Prior to 1 Chronicles 28:19, David received divine insight into the design and specifications of the temple that would be built for the worship of God. This knowledge was given to him directly by God. David acknowledges that the Lord made him understand the plan through a written revelation. It is important to note that while David prepared the plans and materials, it was his son Solomon who actually carried out the construction of the temple.

God’s Hand upon David: The verse highlights that the Lord’s hand was upon David, guiding and inspiring him. This phrase signifies the divine authority and influence behind David’s actions and decisions. It emphasizes that the plans for the temple were not merely David’s ideas but were revealed and inspired by God Himself.

The Works of the Pattern: David states that he was made to understand “all the works of this pattern.” The “pattern” refers to the detailed instructions God gave David regarding the construction and arrangement of the temple. It encompasses the dimensions, materials, furnishings, and overall design of the sanctuary. The phrase “all the works” emphasizes the comprehensive nature of the instructions David received from God.

Importance of Obedience: Through this verse, we see David’s obedience to God’s instructions. He was faithful to communicate God’s revelation to the assembly and provide the necessary plans for the construction of the temple. David’s adherence to the divine pattern reflects his commitment to honoring God and following His will, preparing the way for Solomon to build the temple as directed.
